It's a dedicated tool for list building that is also building out functionality that suits its purpose. Would I choose it for contacts over ZoomInfo no, but would I choose ZoomInfo over Ocean for list building, no?

> We are a B2B company selling into a narrow, regulated manufacturing niche. We chose Ocean.io to find companies that look like our best existing customers, using those accounts as references for lookalike search. That is the platform's core promise, and there are two reasons we are leaving.&#10;&#10;First, the data did not fit. The exported lists were far too broad. Roughly 80 percent of the companies did not match our ICP and did not mirror the reference accounts we built the search on. For a specialized segment we never got a list we could rely on, and onboarding offered little structured help to tune it.&#10;&#10;Second, and the reason I am writing this at all, is how the exit was handled. Once we concluded the tool was not right for us and decided to leave, we learned we are held to the remaining term, close to a year, despite being clearly dissatisfied. When we raised it with support, the focus was on keeping us subscribed rather than on the problem we actually had. When staying was not an option for us, the answer was simply that the contract runs its course.&#10;&#10;We do not normally write reviews like this. In our view, holding a customer who has already moved on for another full year prioritizes protecting recurring revenue over the customer's outcome. That is the part other founders should weigh for themselves.&#10;&#10;Recommendation, especially for startups: the lookalike concept can work for a broad ICP, but test it against your own reference accounts before you commit, and read the renewal and cancellation terms closely. Make sure you know exactly how and when you can leave before you sign.
