The platform handled localization, duties and taxes, currency conversion, and international checkout in a single solution, allowing us to expand into new markets quickly. The onboarding team was knowledgeable, and the initial implementation was relatively smooth. For merchants just getting started with international ecommerce, it provides a fast path to global selling. > > **Minpunten**: The biggest drawback was the lack of transparency. Between pricing adjustments, FX spreads, shipping markups, and reconciliation reports that lacked sufficient detail, we often couldn't independently verify how charges were calculated. As our business grew, the platform became unnecessarily expensive, and we realized we could offer customers nearly the same landed prices using another provider while retaining significantly more margin ourselves. Operationally, the platform was also more restrictive than it should have been. Basic tasks, such as processing certain refunds, sometimes required support intervention, and reporting often lacked the level of detail needed to confidently audit transactions. Global-e is a good solution for getting started internationally, but as your business scales, transparency, flexibility, and total cost become increasingly important, and that's where we found the platform fell short. > > Global-e helped us expand internationally, but over time it became one of the least transparent vendors we've worked with. The platform presents itself as a turnkey cross-border solution, but as our business grew, it became increasingly difficult to understand what we were actually paying. Hidden costs embedded in pricing, FX spreads, shipping markups, and vague reconciliation reports made it nearly impossible to independently audit transactions. No merchant should have to ask for a manual explanation of every line item just to verify an invoice. The final straw came during our offboarding. Months after leaving the platform, we received reconciliation reports containing charges on orders that were seven to eight months old with almost no supporting detail. We were expected to simply accept the numbers without the documentation necessary to validate them. Operationally, the platform was also far more restrictive than it needed to be. Basic functions, including processing certain refunds, often required support involvement. A platform at this price point should empower merchants, not create dependencies. After migrating away from Global-e, we were able to provide customers with nearly identical landed prices while retaining substantially more margin ourselves. That confirmed what we had suspected for quite some time: Global-e had become an expensive middleman whose value no longer justified its cost. If you're evaluating Global-e, don't focus on the sales presentation. Ask how you'll audit your invoices, how transparent the reporting really is, and what your total cost will be after every fee, markup, and reconciliation is accounted for.
