Is AutoCAD Architecture Worth It?

Opmerkingen: This software always brings out the creative in you. It is always coming to the rescue when I least expect it so I plan on using it furthermore in the future.

Pluspunten:

This software comes with tools that allow me to model my buildings in 3D and comes with loads of options on how to create a set of architectural drawings. I can manipulate physical properties with certain parameters and drive the geometry accordingly by changing the value in the properties palette. I can even create door and window schedules based on components that are in the model I'm working on.

Minpunten:

I really wish that AutoCAD (VANILLA) and AutoCAD Architecture were integrated as one sometimes, it would make my life so much easier.

Opmerkingen: My overall experience with AutoCAD Architecture has been a positive one. Once I completed my first concept drawing, I was pleased to see our architect come up with much the same thing, using the same software. A vote of confidence from the industry solidified my impression of the software.

Pluspunten:

AutoCAD Architecture provides an easy to use, yet powerful interface for designing homes and other structures. When the time came to do a renovation on our home, I tried several alternatives before settling on AutoCAD Architecture as the most viable option. All of the other software suites lacked the functionality I sought in terms of views, materials control, snapping, dimensioning, and more. I had initially thought I would simply be using plain AutoCAD, but AutoCAD Architecture has enough architectural-specific features that made home design so much easier (standard thicknesses for walls; blocks for windows, appliances, etc.).

Minpunten:

AutoCAD can be a bit overwhelming for the uninitiated/untrained. I had lots of experience with standard AutoCAD as an engineer, but was worried AutoCAD Architecture might be too complex. That concern turned out to be unfounded as there are many helpful teaching videos available online. After a half hour of how-to's, I was up and running without incident.

Outdate product that could use some big updates

Pluspunten:

AutoCad is straightforward and simple. It gets the job done but just not always in the most efficent manner.

Minpunten:

The product freezes too much, or worse, shuts down if you ask too much of it - resulting in lost work, constantly (good look finding your backup file saved somewhere.) Some tasks are backward, or shortcuts to make your work production easier are hidden in the depths of the menu bars, impossible to figure out. The fact that you cannot change shortcut keys for certain tools is obscene, you need to essentially write code in order to do this. The software is not made for the user, and it seems like they do bare minimal updates to move it along.

The software is highly compatible with many other products. There are unending resources available and supported by most if not all industries in one form or another which makes our job easier.

Minpunten:

Can be cumbersome at times and has glitches that require work arounds. There are times where the program freezes up and requires reboot.

AutoCAD Architecture Review

Opmerkingen: I am a self taught CAD operator who designs small houses and AutoCAD helped me a lot and is still helping me to this day even though I am still learning more, it is a good software that really helped me.

Pluspunten:

AutoCad is a very good CAD software because it is user friendly and it delivers quality graphics that encourage creativity, and it has a lot of features that can be added on and manipulated, which makes it a perfect Draughting tool for Architects old and new.

Minpunten:

It took me too long to get a hang of everything, but truth be told, whatever I learned stayed with me because it was easy to apply, I feel it has a lot of features that need to be learnt first before everything is clearer.

3D AUTOCAD FOR ARCHITECTURE

Opmerkingen: I LIKED THE VARIETY OF ELEMENTS YOU COULD INSERT , SINCE IT SAVED ME A LOT OF TIME WHILE DESIGNIN A NEW SPACE

THE LIBRARY GAVE ME DOORS AND WINDOWS, THAT I COULD CHANGE THE MEASURE AS I NEEDED IT.

Minpunten:

SOMETIMES THE ELEMNTES THAT I INSERTED WENT CRAZY ON THE MEASURMENT , SO FOR EXAMPLE, THE DOORS WOULDN´T SHOW .

Great for 3D Blueprints

Opmerkingen: I think AutoCad is the most accurate and easy to use system for creating 3D buildings and Blueprints.

Pluspunten:

I use this when I need an accurate 3D model of a building I am working on. This is very easy to use and great for realistic and accurate 3d Buildings.

Minpunten:

I dislike the payments that need to be made to use the system since it is a bit high but this is my only complaint.

Execution planning 🤑

Opmerkingen: The beginning of a beautiful career that needs no introduction. Any engineer or project manager cannot do without Autocad Architecture program

Opmerkingen: My experience with the Architectural AutoCAD program is the best thing that happened in my professional and practical life, thanks to which I was able to earn a lot of money by drawing the architectural and construction drawings on it and then presenting it to clients and convincing them of it.
In my academic life as well, I learned it from my first year at the Faculty of Engineering, and I was able to distinguish myself from the students with my drawings and projects on AutoCAD. I still deal with him daily, the focus of my job in life, and I hope autodesk will always be in progress

Pluspunten:

In fact, there are many advantages in the AutoCAD program. I love it personally because it helped me a lot, for example, the ease of drawing on the program, starting to use commands, and also exporting files in dxf image to structural design programs, which saved me a lot of time

Minpunten:

The program may be a little slow when opening or take some time to work. I hope to work on this and find innovative solutions for it

Opmerkingen: my overall experience using autocad, is that autocad has made life easy for me, i don't have to carry drawing boards,Tee-squares and set-squares all over the place because i want to present a design concept,thanks to the auto-desk team.

Autocad makes the profession of designers, architect and engineers more easy, organised and interesting, the autocad interface provide every drawing tools in real life in a digital form, with the help of the tools like grids, object snaps , polar trackers and the orthogonal mode which behaves like a real life set-squares and Tee-squares, a professional can sit comfortable on is couch at home and make drawing reviews, with this extensive tools. autocad interface can easily be customized to fit the type of drafting you would want to carry out either 3D or 2d, some times the numerous toolbars and commands can be overwhelming for beginners, but they are very useful provided the user knows how and what to use them for. Autocad is user friendly,easy to use especially the 2D drafting the many tools have various functions, that would be be needed for different type of drawings, before you use autocad, you must understand the quality of work you want to achieve, then autocad will give them to you faster, accurately and more presentable. Autocad gives the privilege to password drawing files, to prevent access to your drawings by other users of your PC,you can go to options by right click on the drawing window,from there you can set password to your currently opened files, its has really help maintain some level of copy-right, and help to secure companies concept and and designs, I use password on drawings a lot.

The autocad 3D models is not has realistic like the BIM applications with a powerful rendering settings, so i prefer to export CAD format to Revit Architecture for my 3D realistic models. Autocad requires a PC with large memory speed, especially with the latest versions ,while carrying out 2D drafting, modifications like Hatching or triming, if you do not upgrade your RAM you will be very slow working on the application. The numerous tabs, tool bars can be very intimidating to beginners, has a trainer, I have to switch off some tabs and focus on those one that are needed for a particular deliverable, I would like my trainee to accomplish through the present exercise, before going to the next. It is very true that not all of these tools on the autocad interface are being used by architect for their 2D drafting. Making drawing reviews for large project on autocad is not has easy has using BIM applications like Revit Architecture, even if the changes on the plan is small, you will have to edit your elevations, sections, independently on autocad., but despite all these, autocad is the best for architect from the conceptual stage ,working drawing stage and presentation stage.

Opmerkingen: Initially, it was really difficult to help a customer appreciate how his or her project will look like and it took more time to put together sketches in a way that customers can understand.
However, with this software, it has become easy to interact with customers about designs they may have in mind.
with the help of this software, customers get a better idea as to how their intending projects will look like when finally executed.

Pluspunten:

The modification features such as Trim, offset, layers, etc have been very impactful. The software is very easy to use. It turned out that this software has the solutions that my company so desired. hence, its integration into the company was really easy

Minpunten:

I wish you can introduce the ability to import PDF files and either convert or work directly on such files in AutoCAD. I will also be happier if I could import RXF files and work on them. However, my company is happy about what we're accomplishing thus far with this software.

Opmerkingen: Autocad has helped us create precise drawings really easily, it's libraries are so complete that most of the drawings are almost pre drawn. If you can afford it's really high price then it's totally worth it.

Pluspunten:

Autocad is extremely powerful, it is a drawing tool that can work for any type of situation, we have created electrical, mechanical, civil and architectural plans with it, also room designs and layouts. It has so many features that make the use of other cad tools unnecessary if you can afford it.

Minpunten:

It can be overwhelming, since there are so many comands you need to know just to perform the most simple actions such as drawing a circle or a line, it could be more streamlined. Also it is really expensive.

What I like about AutoCad is that I can design, model and put the exact dimensions of every little details. AutoCad is very convenient to Architect student like me because all the tools that I needed for design is in this software. Not to mention that they have a free trial for student which I'm very thankful about. It save a lot time and effort. Once you know your way on how to use AutoCad and what the tools are for, you can easily use the software faster than expected. Credits to the accuracy of its measurements and details it is a big help to quickly finish the project. I like how I don't need to worry about revisions because it can change easily without having to draw again. I also like how I can convert my work to other file formats such PDF and etc. Lastly, I'm very impressed in Cad 3D view because it is very realistic as it can simulate the layout of your design.

Not much just even though it is user friendly it really takes time to fully grasp its functions and details. Also, AutoCad requires to have a strong computer processing power in order to have a good experience.

AutoCAD A Great Tool

As an Architect it helps me design more Complex structures which includes lots of detailing in it and it is very easy to use if you have basic understanding of software. Presenting basic floor plans and elevation and other details are very easy on this software. Changes in drawings can be done very easily which is very useful when client ask for sudden changes in the drawing.

Minpunten:

Using 3D is sometimes very confusing, It gets very complicated most of the time which is very exhausting sometimes and needs a very high specs of PC. For starter it can be little difficult to get familiar with all the functions

I like that it was fairly easy to learn the basics of the software. I was able to adequately use the program with very little time learning the software beforehand. I also like how well the software helps you learn more of the functions and features that it offers, the more that you use it.

I dislike that the software has seemed to reach a plateau in its capabilities. It seems that other software that provide similar services have caught up to AutoCAD. It seems that AutoCAD is progressing slower than other software.

Although all versions are not compatible it is possible to save the drawing is older versions so if needed can be edited in older version. It can handle very big and complex drawings.

I have used AutoCAD Architecture for most of my career life, to design architectural drawings and it has not disappointed me. The software has the most functionalities that one would need.

Minpunten:

The price os the software is one thing that needs to be looked at. For a small firm, it would be difficult to get a licence for this product. The other issue if the volume of the software installation, it takes up so many resources, one needs a powerful computer to run this software without any glitches.

Not a fan of 2020 update with the changes in measuring and change in button layout. Wish it worked hand in hand with Revit better.
